As if these accolades weren’t enough, we’re excited to announce our second Shorty win for Love Has No Labels Best Social Good Campaign. To date, the #LoveHasNoLabels hashtag has been used over 30,000 times generating over 110 million impressions. NBD.

With a base in Los Angeles and team members in NYC, HelpGood helps our clients develop and maintain their online content and communities through strategy, planning, production, marketing, media and measurement. We’re seeking a Content Strategist / Social Media Manager to join our small team and work with us on a freelance basis with the possibility of it becoming a full-time role at our Brooklyn office.  You will be a primary social media community manager a well as a support team member for a variety of household name social good clients. You’ll be making a direct impact in the lives of people and working on issues including education, the environment, human rights, equal rights, health and a variety of other subject areas.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Community Management: Run the editorial calendars for our clients across their social channels such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram and others.
    • Copywriting – Composing social posts
    • Daily Moderation, replies, engagement.
    • Publishing posts across channels daily, scheduling posts.
    • Influencer Outreach – Cultivating relationships with social media influencers to gain their support of our efforts.
    • Reporting – Composing weekly reports to communicate results of a social program.
    • Image production – Creating social images to fill the content calendar according to editorial themes.
    • Content curation – Scraping the internet for relevant content to be shared across social channels in a real-time environment.
  • Project Management/Content Production : Create timelines and produce content deliverables for the social calendars with design teams. Ensure all projects on staying on timeline.
  • Office Management: Help with office needs such as answering calls, sending out packages, invoicing.


  • 2-4+ years of work experience preferable at an agency, nonprofit, social media marketing agency, public relations (PR), advertising, digital promotions, mobile marketing, or an interactive  / new media agency and/or directly for a consumer facing Fortune 500 brand.
  • 1-3+ years of hands-on, successful management of social media communities and campaigns on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Tumblr, Instagram, Kik or any other public, private and/or dark social media platforms.
  • Nonprofit, cause marketing or volunteer experience is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience communicating with internal staff and clients.
  • Ability to handle multiple campaigns, detail oriented with excellent organizational skills
  • Intermediate knowledge of Photoshop, Google Drive, Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, TweetReach, CMS (such as WordPress and Drupal) Word and Excel.
  • Experience with content marketing / creation / management for social properties.
  • Ability to develop creative social media strategies and execute new and compelling marketing tactics that resonate with the target audience to achieve our client’s campaign goals.
  • Experience communication directly with the client via phone or in-person meetings.
  • BA or BS in Marketing, communications or related field.

The goal of a content audit is to help you determine what assets you already have in your content marketing arsenal, what gaps exist and what your path forward should be. It’s both a quantitative and qualitative assessment that is a key component of any site development or social media community management project.

HelpGood’s content audit process includes assessing:

  • Inventory – including text, images, photos, logos, icons, illustrations, videos, widgets, documents, filetypes, site metadata, url nomenclature
  • Performance – pageviews, bounce rates, average time on page, engagement rates measured in likes, retweets, comments, and the like
  • Context – we focus on information architecture while making qualitative assessments and use the following heuristics to score content
    • Location – how has it been organized since a good piece of content could underperform with inadequate placement.
    • Existence – just because the content exists doesn’t mean it was indexed correctly.
    • Tagged – ensure content has appropriate descriptions, tags and labels.
    • Navigable – does it lead to deeper insights and prompt for how to access other related material. Is it reachable via different user paths.
    • Accessibility – is key information given the correct emphasis. If required, are 508 compliance guidelines followed.
    • Structured – does the navigation match the expectations of the users.
    • Consistency – from iconography to presentation, is the content consistently presented so as to set user expectations.
    • Relevance – index the content against the various target user populations and gauge if there is content relevant to browsers versus deep divers.
    • Current – is the content fresh and refreshed.
    • Tone – does it match the brand voice.
    • Critical – versus redundant, outdated or trivial
  • Source – we look at whether the content was created, contributed or curated
  • Competitive Set – to provide an even broader context, we will look at the content mix of a client’s comparables to help with competitive positioning
  • Scorecard – summarizes the above and points to the current and ongoing needs which also highlights existing content that needs further action, that’s fine as-is, or should be removed.

The end result is a very tactical set of insights to help gauge priorities going forward.

Google made what might be the longest and densest infographic we’ve seen in awhile. But these digital trends coering everything from social media to mobile marketing will shape your nonprofit’s cause marketing efforts in the year to come. The key new issues for digital marketers are:

No real surprise – as of September 2014, the Pew Research Center finds that Facebook remains by far the most popular social media site. But in terms of speed, Instagram is the fastest growing with Pinterest close behind. HelpGood experimented with the fast growing Instagram social network for the USDA Forest Service with the Ad Council to see if Smokey Bear could boost the government agency’s visual presence. It worked. The majority of feedback and sentiment was positive and that wasn’t even with relying on Smokey selfies. Instagram is a great platform for your nonprofit to connect with young Millennials for your cause marketing and social good outreach efforts.
